My relationship with my mentor, Assistant Director Mrs. Linker, is progressing positively. I believe she has begun to understand my work ethic and that I am not afraid to put in hard work. As we continue to get to know each other, our conversations have become more transparent while maintaining professionalism. I am truly grateful to have a mentor who is willing to take me under her wing, especially as she navigates a new school. This gratitude seems to have strengthened our relationship.

This week, shadowing Mrs. Linker proved to be a pivotal and unforgettable leadership experience, providing rich insights into effective school leadership. Her approach resonated strongly with the ELCC standards, particularly in fostering a positive school culture and nurturing professional relationships (ELCC, 2011). I observed Mrs. Linker entering classrooms in an approachable and non-threatening manner, which helped put teachers at ease during observations. Her calm, respectful, and supportive demeanor illustrated the importance of building trust with staff and creating an environment where educators feel comfortable and valued.

I was particularly impressed by her attentive listening skills and her professional responses to challenges as they arose. This experience highlighted for me the critical role of active listening and thoughtful communication in effective leadership.

Additionally, I had the opportunity to support a student who spends part of his day in the resource room before returning to my classroom for science. Assisting him with reading and motivating him to excel in other areas reinforced the importance of addressing individual student needs, which closely aligns with the ELCC standard of promoting the success of all students (ELCC, 2011). This experience emphasized how personalized support can significantly impact student growth and confidence, showcasing the essential role of school leaders in cultivating inclusive learning environments.

Reflecting on these experiences, I am inspired to emulate Mrs. Linker’s methods in observation and problem-solving. I aim to apply these skills to foster a supportive and collaborative school culture, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive.
